Fifteen private minutes. Most clients plunge for two to six of them.

What Is a Cold Plunge?

A cold plunge is a few minutes of sitting in cold water with your head above the surface, in a tub built and chilled to hold a steady temperature. At sēk the water is held at 42 degrees, the room is yours alone, and nothing about it is a test you have to pass.

  • Cold water immersion: head stays above the surface, the rest of you goes in.
  • Held at 42 degrees: the same temperature on your tenth visit as your first.
  • Private room: 100 percent of the studio is private rooms.
  • Yours for 15 minutes: most clients plunge for 2 to 6 of them.
  • Filtered every 15 minutes: the full volume of water, continuously.
  • Supports: recovery after hard training.

What the Cold Feels Like

The first 30 seconds

Your breath catches and speeds up. That is the cold doing what cold does, not a sign that something is wrong. Breathe out slowly, longer than you breathe in, and it passes.

The settle

Somewhere in the first minute or two the water stops feeling like an emergency. Your breathing evens out, your shoulders come down, and the cold turns into something you are simply sitting in.

The clear stretch

From here most clients stay 2 to 6 minutes. Still, alert, unusually present. When you have had enough, you get out. That is the whole rule.

The first time, a specialist walks you through all three.

Your Session

Before

Come in a swimsuit if you would like a specialist to coach you through it, and skip lotions, oils and cosmetics beforehand. The first time, a sēk specialist walks you into your private room, shows you the tub, the timer and the call button, explains the pace, and steps out. The room is yours from there.

During

Get in at your own speed and breathe out slowly. First-timers often get in and out in 30 to 60 second stretches until the water stops feeling like a shock. The room is yours for 15 minutes and most clients plunge for 2 to 6 of them. There is no target to hit and the call button is within reach the whole time.

After

A warmed towel is waiting for you. Dress warm and let your body come back up to temperature on its own. A Vitamin C shower is available to every client if you want one, though we suggest holding off right after a session so the cold keeps working.

The Water

Clean water is not an afterthought here.

Our cold plunge is a Plunge All-In, built for daily studio use. Its onboard system circulates, filters and ozone-sanitizes the entire volume of water every 15 minutes. The chiller holds 42 degrees without drifting. And because every session is private, it is one guest at a time, in a room with the door closed.

How Often Should You Plunge?

At sēk we recommend 2 to 6 minutes a session, with a goal of about 11 minutes a week in total. How long you stay is always yours to decide, and the cold does get noticeably easier with repetition.

Heat + Cold

Contrast Therapy at sēk

At sēk, contrast therapy is not a separate appointment. It is an infrared sauna session followed by a Cold Plunge session.

Thirty minutes in a private Solo Pod, or forty in the Infrared Sauna Cabin, then your own private cold plunge room for 2 to 6 minutes in 42 degree water. Two services, two rooms, both yours alone.

Book the two appointments back to back, or text the studio at 615.614.3461 and we can help you arrange them.
